Hi, got a new Brompton M3L a few weeks ago. Loving it.

However, it is really noisy when coasting in high gear. It's that "clicking" sound that you get on all bikes when they coast, but mine seems louder than usual. Is this normal for the Brompton? While costing in lower gears the sound is not so loud. I have made some manual adjustments to the tension rod, but I'm pretty sure it was just as loud beforehand.

Just curious if there are some more adjustments I can make on my own - bringing it back to the dealer for adjustments is an option but yet another trip I have to make.

There is an additional set of pawls inside the hub which are part of the inner workings of the planetary gears. In first gear, these pawls don't move so you just get the freewheel ticking, in second the additional pawls will tick and in third gear they will tick at twice the rate.

I take it this is a new bike? The hub will take a few hundred miles to bed in, give it some time.

The ticking makes a pretty busy noise in third gear. I assume that[s what the questioner is talking about.
