Mountain Biking - What do you hurt the most?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm curious as to what part of the body generally gets hurt the most when mountain biking, so I thought I'd start this poll.
If you have time then a short desription as to why you generally get hurt there would be good. Also if it's not on the list just say in your post.
Thanks.
Edit -> I meant to type knees in with shins/calves, soz. The family jewels should probably come under hips/upper legs. I've kinda done it in protection groups if that makes sense, if not dw.
I would have put ego/pride but I think everyone has hurt that more than anything else.
Knees, shins. Mainly because that's the part of me that hits the ground first and/or gets tangled up with the pedals when I go down.

Surprised you didn't say "Ed's head...soon".

Last year I got a hairline fracture or so just above the radus (I think, probably a bit above that, but I dont know hand/wrist bones very well). Big hits hurt. But I feel lucky, because thats all I have to deal with (well, sometimes if I've been lifting, I'll get shin splint type things, only in my arms). Nothing like some of the old guy's I ride with from time to time with their blown knees and what not.

its a tie between knees and hands. i have a terrible problem with "the deathgrip" i have ESL grips and wear gloves and that helps.
im gonna be 20 soon and my right knee is seriously F'd up. it sucks.
i do sissy xc riding... nothing extreme. I went for arms... A lot of impact is to the hands/forearms/elbows/upperarm/shoulder. Since I'm moving so slow I usually have enough time to get my arms out before anything else goes.
for road cycling it's a toss between hips and arms. sometimes I don't eject out of the pedals, so the legs aren't free.

Ego.
Other than that, it's knees when I'm riding clipless, and shins when I'm riding platforms.

Shins, palms and hip.
I took a nice tumble today and hurt all three. Right palm and the left hip killing me as I am typing this. :D
I forgot to add the elbows,:D

i hurt the shins/calf as i used to run twist grip i would be stood up pedalling and catch the shifter which would jerk the chain and make my foot slip off the pedals so when they cam round again they would hit my leg
it hurts loads..imhoping to have resolved this with rapid fire tho
crappy twistys...

knee. Tibea Platue fracture on the right knee, 3 screws holding it together since '95 motorcycle accident. It hurts all the time except when I'm clipped in it stays warmed up. Stepping off the bike the first few steps are tough. I learned from rehab that I enjoy pushing my body to the limit more than twisting than the throttle.

Have not gone down on the new bike yet but i did manage to wack my foot off a log playing around on a trail near my place. I think it hurt more cause i broke that foot last summer in a offroading accident on my old motorcycle LOL.

Do you wear any back/shoulder protection such as the Rockgardn Flak Jacket?
Follow up question, do you think the above jacket would actually help if someone was to fall down? Since I got my eggbeaters I've fallen down a couple of times on the trails and I'm wondering if I should get some kind of protection. I'm mainly worried about my back when falling.

I'm currently debating whether I have to call in sick to work today, because I split my knee wide-open yesterday.
Shins, then hands. I have impacts on shoulders, thighs, boot, but majority on shins, most serious starting on shins...as to the why? Hands from bracing from impact (yeah, yeah, I know, don't put your hand out, this applies only to preventing my face from eating rock garden)...shins, probably because when you bail/crash and automatically clip out, your shins are closest to the ground/trail detritus.

My Feelings.

The question was what do you hurt the most. Seeing as every mountain biker I know wears a helmet, I'd expect the head to be low on the list as what actually gets hurt the most.

I hurt my knees the most often by far. Always catching them on the shifter, fork crown or ground.

Deathgrip huh? Hands were a serious issue for me until I just relaxed. Tight grips definitley fatigues your hands a lot quicker.

Shins for sheezy. My right shin looks like an uncooked hamburger patty.

I put back, simply because everytime I ride more than 1 mile or so, I can feel my back straining.
whether I have my pack on or not...
This is simply because the Treks geometry isn't suiting me anymore, But I deal with it.
My shins and knees and such usually stay unharmed for the most part, every now and then I get a gash, or a bump, wrists and hands only hurt if I ride for a while, but that's probably a technique error on my part that needs improvement.
other than that, Nothing really bothers me, Unless... of course if I crash, then..... *holds ribs*

Its good to see we all wear helmets =)
The amount of people who have said back worries me. I have been debating getting a back brace because I'm paranoid about just landing awkardly. I think I'm probably just over reacting though.
I whack my knees and shins all the time, but its over when its over. I voted "back" because its a niggling continual problem even after the ride. The less I ride the better my back :(

Since I got my eggbeaters I've fallen down a couple of times on the trails and I'm wondering if I should get some kind of protection. I'm mainly worried about my back when falling.I have two different SixSixOne Pressure Suits that I wear anytime I race downhill or practice for racing . . . or riding Whistler. But it would be total overkill riding trails.
Race suits offer minimal shoulder protection. The shoulder cups are suitable for shoulder-brushes with trees but that's about it. The spine protection, however, is fairly robust and does not limit riding motion to any degree that I can detect.
I smashed my shoulder / collar into a tree yesterday going about mach 4. That was fun.
