General Cycling Discussion - Non-traditional seat architecture

I'm just curious if there are any seat manufacturers out there that create seats other than the standard "triangle" shape. For example, i've always thought it might be more comfortable to have a seat that was essentially 2 seats, or rather, 1 seat with 2 halves completely seperate that are angled and sized to support very specific areas of your butt. I drew up something small in paint (it's a regular picasso) but it should give some idea of what I mean, essentially if you cut a sit in half length wise and then chopped off 2" of the front. You'd have to make the 2 secons of the seat deep pocketed enough that your butt could firmly rest insideand they'd have to have enough length to them obviously to support you without sliding, but does anything like that exist? In my head it just seems like it would be so much more comfortable than a standard seat, and probably weight less too.

I remember seeing bike seats like that on sale last time I was at an REI store. Granted, that was like 4 years ago, but it still stands taht they're out there.

I guy in my club has a seat similar to that. He swears by it, I don't see how it could be comfortable.

I had a customer come into my store who had one and spoke so highly of it that I decided to get a couple. I'd install them on a customer's bike and let them try it out in the parking lot. Kiss of death! I should have sold them "As is" with no test rides. After trying it out, they all decided they hated it. Every single one. I think that the EZ-Seats went into the dumpster when we closed out the shop.

There are seats like that. There is one in my last issue of bike magazine, it didn't look any more comfortable than a traditional seat though.

Loss of control for one. You use the nose of the saddle to help control the bike.

Here I fixed the excess canvas for you.

I remember seeing one marketed towards women on the boob tube a long while back. It had the halves close together and they were quite large but they had pivots so they could move up and down with the legs.

my lbs has this seat. it looks like it would be comfy but i havent had a chance to try it.

Well, I just ran into an old friend who knows this guy....I've never tried it.
