I am looking into an entry level mountain bike. Can anyone recommend any models of the 2 brands listed? Kona or Cannondale? I want something that I can off road and somewhat ride around town. Price range is under $700.

I have two Cannondales and love them but I've yet to spend less than $1300 on one. I remember seeing some tough Konas for lower prices though.

I was looking into the f7, have you ever owned one of them?

F7 is solid. We sell it at the shop and it seems to be a solid frame with decent components.
I'd switch those tires though for something less aggressive if its going to see more street time than dirt. If I recall it's SRAM-equipped which personally gets props from me. I hate Shimano unless its index (old-school DeoreLX).
It's about the same as the M700 without the pepperoni fork of greatness.

Cannondale F5. Got mine for 650$. X5-7 mix with a decent (compared with the entry RST's) Dart 3.

They are BOTH GOOD. However, the Cannondale can later be built into a crazy-light, 19-pound XC climbing rocket...with the right parts, just like mine:
