Saw something called a Grunge Guard on the Lizardskin website.
An injection molded rubber covering that protects your derailleur from dirt and grime! The guard does not interfere with shifting and is a good solution to winter and wet riding.

Available for front and rear, MTB and road bike derailleurs. Does anyone have any experience with these?
Can't say that I've seen them before interesting

They work Ok if you remove them regularly to make sure everything is clean. The big problem is that while they keep dirt out, any that gets in stays and it is out of sight, out of mind.
What Rev.Chuck said. Up here in the PNW, we get a lot of gunk buildup just riding on pavement. Venture anywhere near some dirt or do any MTBing and well you can start to grow stuff in your derailleurs after a few rides. I know a couple of people who have resorted to Grunge Guards. I however am pretty anal about cleaning and find them to be a hassle so for me, they'd be more of a bane than a boon. My only other complaint about them is that they make shifting a little less smooth.
I would think they would hold a certain amount of moisture in as well. But that's just from looking at the picture. I've never used them nor have I known anyone that has used them.
