Hi,

Please can anyone help me? I'm trying to customise my Space Genie in time for the British Heart Foundation Folding Bike ride challenge (London to Paris) in September. I've managed to get a sram hub 3x7 hub from ebay and now want to get it built up. It has 18 holes on each flange, so I need a 16in alloy rim with 36 holes to fit... and I'm struggling to find anything in the UK.

I'd also like to get a telescopic seat post (I'm 6ft 2in) but again the tube is 29.8mm and the Brompton, which would seem the choice is 30+ so doesn't fit. Its not a big deal as a friend has made me a massive seat tube out of stainless steel that does the trick...

Call me fussy, but I'm not over the moon about the handlebar stem either. The Dahon one looks so much cooler, do you know if this would fit my Space Genie?

Finally, I have fitted a Cateye computer from an old road bike but haven't got the leaflet that tells you what number to put in for the wheel size to get the correct mileage/speed. I've guessed at 995; anyone any better clue?

Thanks for your help guys... you're all mad riding these darn things :) but there is a only a fine line between that and genius!

St. John Street Cycles are always good for folder parts, I think they probably have what you want (http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/category-Rims--16-(349)-635.htm) (I'm assuming you want a 349mm ERD). The also sell spokes cut to short lengths which may be of use to you.

Both really helpful. Have ordered a Sun as suggested - it seems to be the only 36 hole they do.
Cheers both.

You won't regret it. I put a set of CR-18s (406mm) on my mother's Raleigh Twenty, they seem very good quality and durable rims.

Interesting, thanks. Did you cut down ordinary spokes to fit, they seem to be at quite an angle to the nipples?
The chap who is going to build my wheel for me advised against it... he suggested it would put the wrong stresses on the hub. But then he seems quite a cautious type; he also said my seatpin is too long - its 750mm and made from a piece of stainless steel pipe. I said I'd rather take the risk of it snapping the frame than wreck my knees!

More frame insert from a longer seat post is better than less using a shorter post,if both set at the right height. As mentioned a sprung saddle gives another 1 1/2 inch in some cases.

itis hard to caculate the stress with 16in wheel due to its short spoke
The chap often depend in their experence
it is also diffculte to find a 16in 36holes double wall rim if u want it 100PSI
16in small wheel make fun and restriction
