Hello,
I am looking to get a better bike than I currently have(old crappy walmart bike that I was given). This is mostly for riding with my kids, but I'd like the capability to do some light trail riding, so I was thinking mountain bike. Anyway, I'm currently in the middle of nowhere SW OK, so CL is not very helpful. I was looking at a particular seller on ebay offering a variety of models in my ideal price range <$300. He is in Dallas, so it would only be a 3 hour drive to pick up and I might even grab one for my wife as well to make the trip worthwhile. So I was wondering if anything jumps out at anyone as a good choice/value of the list of 20 or so that this guy is selling.

Take the money you were going to use for gas money on the trip, double it, and add it to your ideal price range jar. Add a few more when possible.

Not knowing your physical size, I would say the a 26" wheeled bike is about all the off roading you are going to get. 29ers are very high now. I'm thinking Giant Sedona. Not the best, but better than what you are going to find on flea bay without knowledge. Plus you are getting the services of your LBS. Worth every extra penny!

My wife's Jamis Trail-X 1.0 was $325.00 and it's from a LBS (local bicycle shop) and set up to "FIT" her, like Jerry stated, save yourself the hassle and headache of a E-Bay purchase. How can you know the bike well "FIT" you or your wife over E-Bay?? There are different frame sizes and geometries, ect. and it's great to get to "test ride" different brands of the same style or differnet at your LBS. It's WORTH some bucks to know that your bicycles, FIT and FUNCTION properly more than "saving a few bucks", I learned this from experiance, (started on a X-Mart Roadmaster MTB, almost got killed when the handlebars came lose on the way home down a steep hill:twitchy:) JMHO, YMMV.:thumb:
