Hi, all. Google was already a pretty good help for me, but it left a few questions unanswered- maybe somebody here can fill me in. The main thing I`m wondering about is the condition of the Beckwourth/Genesee and Beckwourth/Taylorsville roads. Are they paved? Graded? Still likely to be snowed in next month? I`m kind of hoping they`re paved, but as long as they aren`t full scale Jeep trails or endless washboard I can slap some fat tires on and I`ll probably take one of those routes anyway. The maps also show a few options for Genesee to Quincy and Cromberg- would any of those be a better choice?

What I`m trying to find is a nice route (three days worth or so) home from Lassen NP to Reno near the middle of next month. 395 looks decent, but not particularly interresting. Also, I really prefer to avoid the section of 70/89 from the junction of the two up to Keddie, so I don`t want to take the highways all the way through Quincy, Portola, etc. Any other routes I might be missing? Related suggestions? Thanks.

EDIT: I thought I`d add that I plan to be riding midweek. And it looks like Genesse to Janesville is paved- correct? Maybe that`s my best shot if it`s nasty to Beckwourth.

If you have the time, come up this weekend and do the Indian Valley Century and check the roads out. You can register in the morning no problem. Another option is the paved road from Antelope Lake over to Janesville south of Susanville but that would leave you more on 395. Last time I was over the Genesee/Beckwourth road it was paved, not re-paved but very ride-able.

Thanks, Sagebum. Beckwourth Genesee sounds good. Like I said, I have no real problem with 395- I`ve ridden between Doyle and Reno a few times and it isn`t bad, I just think I can find BETTER. I saw a ride report on last year`s I.V. Century. It looked nice, but my days off are almost never on weekends and I tend to stay away from big gatherings anyway. You have a good one up there, though.

Wanted to let you know that I misinformed you about the Genesee/Beckwourth Rd conditions. It is indeed not paved at all. The road I have ridden is the one from Antelope Lake up to a junction with the road that goes to Janesville. At that junction, you turn right and it is a great ride on pretty darn good surface for perhaps 25+ miles. Then there is about 5 miles of good dirt and then pavement to Beckwourth. There are no big climbs. The dirt was smooth this weekend, don't know how it holds up over the summer as to dust and washboards though. I hope to do this again sometime. Here is a map. http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/ca/greenville/742124347494668769 Sorry for the misinformation.

Thanks for the correction. I think I`ll just wear fat tires anyway as long as the weather looks nice (my fenders don`t fit with them). Since I`m going up by car, I can always keep some skinnies and my fenders in the trunk and route myself on pavement if the forecast looks wet.
