Is coming along nicely:
My tomatoes and a pepper plant

Mustard Greens and beans:
http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x273/ModoVincere/Mustardandbeans.jpg

In addition to that, I've got brocoli, asparagus, onions, potatoes, mesclun, cucumbers, watermelon, okra, and zuchini. I didn't get anymore pics caused it started raining right after taking these pics. I did manage to get a big bag of mustard greens picked this morning. I've cooked them and put them up in the freezer.

Gardening is good. Let's see yours.

this is the first year i have grown anything in the garden. i tried my first pickings of spinach and it was absolutely delicious. better than anything shop bought. everything else is growing very slowly. tomatoes are less than half the size of yours.

i forgot about the potatoes. they are amzingly fast growing.

I tried gardening last year, and learned that I would have to commit more time and learning to it, which is difficult to do these days for us. So we are going to be farm market hanger-outers this year. I am going to stick to what I do well, and let the farmers do what they do well. :p

You're at least three weeks ahead of us here MV. Looks like you could use some mulch there though. I'll post some pics when I have more to show then the couple plants we have out there now (and hoping this stupidly cold spell won't kill off). We do have thistles and catnip like you wouldn't believe though.

mulch would be good. I bag the lawn on occasion and use the clippings to mulch with. Good source of nitrogen for the tomatoes and peppers. You can see some of the grass clippings I have already gathered around the base of the tomatoe plants.

You'll see grapes in 2010 - if you're lucky.

see....us southerners know that frying okra results in no gooey mess. Also, if you have to boil it, stew it with tomatoes....the acidity of the tomatoes gets rid of the gooey mess. Then of course, there's the pinnacle of uses for the stuff....Cajun cuisine.

I know that, it's a long term investment, still shorter than planting an olive tree.

I'm screwed.

I'm living a bad cartoon. I have ground squirels. Planted 2 plantings of squash on the hill. 6 plants, 1 week later one left. This was with rabbit wire surrounding them. Replanted. 2 days later only the original survivor. These were all on the hill. We had other planings down nearer the house. At first I thought it was worms, used Safer Turgiside (sp) no luck. Then thought it might be grasshoppers tried things for them. Then saw rabbits, was more carefull about rabbit fencing. I've lost most of the lettuce. All the onions.

The herbs are doing well. Bell Peppers fine. Tomatoes that got started seem fine. But I've lost 2 volunteer tomatoes.

At least the trees seem fine.

The coyotes don't seem to get the squirels, but because of them I'm not going the get a few cats route. The lettuce near th dogs area seems to fare a bit better. And I have no fear for the dogs (Only worry about men, rattlesnakes and bears for them and all I've ever seen near home is men).

But if worst comes to worst I'll still have trees, grapes and berries.

Over the winter, my mint plants sent out runners from the flower beds to the yard. Now when I mow next to the beds, I get a wonderful minty smelling lawnmower!!!

I just came in from digging a new garden section for my wife. I cut through our cable line :( No TV for us tonight. I was a bit PO'd about the cable only being 6" from the surface. You'd think it would have to be at least 12", which would put it a few inches below a spade depth.

Louisiana. It's pretty nice now (although we've already had a couple 90f days), but come august, it's ugly. Plants like it tho.

For birds, I think the only thing you can reasonably do is a physical barrier, such as netting. I don't know any non-chemical treatments, you can use very mild insecticidal soap, or there is something out there that the actual ingredient is sesame oil. Can't remember the name.

no. there were already 3 small fruit trees (shoulder height): a pear, cherry and apple trees. the rest of the garden was a disaster so i scorched it all including the lawn last year, seeded a new lawn and this year planted a whole bunch of edible stuff. i've always hated gardening but growing veg got me more interested because i'm a pig.
