When I heard JJ Abrams was directing, I was disappointed. I knew he wasn't a Trekkie.
What I didn't realise until after I'd seen the movie is that he was smart enough to bring Leonard Nimoy in on the development team. Actually, that was almost certainly one of the writers, that brought him in. Nimoy is the Keep of the Faith. He is one of the very few people that understands the movie biz that also understands what Star Trek is about.

So I went loaded for bear, expecting to see Trek trashed. I was disappointed. Deliriously disappointed.

It was great. Sure, there are several nits I could pick. I don't care. It's not only a really good movie, it is so good that once again the franchise may come back from the dead.

I hear even kids (meaning those under 40) :p like it...

I loved it too...without letting too much out for those who have not seen it, I was highly skeptical about the plot as I first heard it....since it didn't "fit the original bill" if you know what I mean. But then I hear that Nimoy was in on it and that he was a "key figure" in how the movie goes down...so it all made sense. So I extraordinarily pleased...plus it was really good to see John Cho doing something rather than being a doped up doofus.

EDIT: oh yeah...and I'm "only" 38 btw. ;)
