Mountain Biking - Norco bigfoot VS kona hoss

i am looking for a new bike. I am a heavy rider, so i've been doin a bit of research, and asking around. I've come up with 2 bikes.
Norco bigfoot, and the kona hoss.

Now, i know nothing of these bikes, so i need to know if i am getting ripped off. keep in mind, i am buying in Canadian funds, and i weigh 266 LBS.
I want a bike that will be able to handle trails, curb jumps, and maybe some small jumps if i get confident.

In either case you are not being ripped off. Both bikes fit a value point that works for around a grand canadian. Both bike have similar parts so you can't even make a difference there. Both are partially/fully made in canada. Both geometries are almost identical. And both frames are both very strong. Either bike will do everything you want AND more. (I go quite large on my roast)

Next step. Ride them and find which you like more. The geometries are almost identical but they will still feel different. You may prefer one over the other.

alright. i went to my LBS, and i could only find the bigfoot. im gunna head over to Toronto, find a better bike shop to buy it.

Kona might be difficult to find in Ontario. It is popular but not like Norco. When i was living in Guelph I could only find Rm's and Norco and sometimes brodie.

You might have better luck posting this in the mountain bike forum. These bikes are trail bikes and you might get more responses.

please get a very big chain and use it to lock the bike up. i recomend an abus granite lock and one of the big abus chains.

It won't break it. Some parts maybe but unless you have a bigger budget that will happen with all bikes...

Big abuse chain...what the heck is that and why...sram chains work fine.

I have a kryptonite(sp?) chain cost me $50, but i think its time for a new one.

No I thought he meant the chain that drives your gearing..I wasn't thinking of security. I don't actually own a chain as I never leave my bike anywhere people can get to it. So I just never think of it.

heh. i only use my lock at school, other places, it doesn't leave my eye sight. when i get my norco or kona, i plan to keep it in a locked up closet in my communications technology class

Not really worth it. Similar warranty, parts and frame....if it feels the same and is confortable get the cheaper one.

Me likey norco better. :D Although I do respect Kona but as previously posted, Norco is everywhere around southern ontario. One of my LBS' carries the complete Norco line (the bike shop is full of their bikes).

HEY man I've got a Kona Hoss Dee Lux and its awesome.....I'm 270 and do the kind of riding like you described...I cant break that thing...the rims are still true after over 200 miles of trai riding. PWRDBYTRD has one also, and he raves about it....(ask him) I cant say I know a lot about the norco line, but I can tell you that I love my bike. I also know a guy MIKABIKE has the regular hoss and is over 500 pounds..........if you got other questions, email me at givempills@aol.com............

I got the Cowan for a good price, I was going for the Norco Manik but it was $350 more.
