Wow. I'd like to be surprised that people are this stupid. But you can only get surprised at that so many times untill it is just normal. I mean, wow. People can be so damn stupid. I had a good laugh at this. Thanks.

Well, I wouldn't say the people were stupid. However, they are ignorent. I tend to think of intelligence as the ability to use one's brain for reasoning and problem solving. Ignorence is merely the lack of knowledge and that is another thing entirely. Oops, there goes the teaching reflex. Down Boy! Down!
Also, having done some teaching, I have experience in the length, breadth and depth of human ignorence so I am generally not surprised by accounts of this nature.
A crab is a crustacean, soft animal that lives inside a shell, walks sideways, and has two large claws and protrouding eyes.

More than one-third of those asked about the makeup of a meal consisting of a hamburger, fries and a medium soft drink said it has 500 carbs. Almost as many believed it has 200 carbs. The correct answer, given by only 19 percent, is 150 carbs.
is a carb a unit of measurement?

A device for mixing gas and air to foment combustion in a cylinder; generally replaced some time back by fuel injection in cars.
A "low carb" was used on cars close to the ground (i.e., sports cars) and a "high carb" was use on trucks and other vehicles higher off the ground.
A reduced carb diet were "single barrel" carbs, a full carb diet used "four barrel" carbs.

Nope. What they mean is the number of grams of carbs in a meal.
One girl I know thought that the carbs in soda was due to the carbonation. I laughed so hard I almost **** myself.

NICE!
Was she from Lincoln Park? I wouldn't doubt it..
Nah! But her sister currently lives there. Little trixie.
Actually the more I think about it, this whole "low carb lifestyle" crap is just a fancy way of saying "Hey! You'll get fat if you eat too many Twinkies!" DUH!!! And Atkins? Forget about it! If this trend keeps up I'm buying stock in whoever manufactures those stents used to hold open clogged arteries. I just hope people are smart enough to at least start eating a heart healthy diet once they lose the weight. I mean you're asking for trouble eating nothing but bacon the rest of your life. and watch out those bubbles in soda will make you fat!

Damn. I started reading Muscle & Fitness when I was in 7th grade and have known about carbs and nutrition ever since.
I used to do the 40/30/30 diet in my early 20s, but when I got engaged to be married and got an office job I let the exercise go down the tubes and gained almost 50lbs.
Now that I'm single again I've dropped 25lbs. in the last 5 months and am once again back on a healthier diet.
What I think is stupid are the people who think the Atkins diet means they can just chow down on bacon and hamburger patties all day and not hurt themselves.

What about the endocrine system ? carbs are essentail , yes . But what about the fact that after 20 , your pituatary gland stops producing hormone as it did before the age of 20. After 50 your red blood cell count falls dramatically . I have heard that recumbant growth horemone is the the most powerful fat burner there is for people over 40 . I have heard that the fall in red blood cells is the main cause of dememtia , lack of oxigen to the brain . I personally do use rHGH . I have a better mood , more energy , quicker recovery , better memory , better blood pressure , better colesterol and my sideburns are not grey anymore .My grey sideburns have actually returned to the normal color . My face looks younger and I have that drive that we all used to have when we were in our prime . I also use bioidentical horemone replacement , DHEA .

ps after I reach 50 , i will seekout ways to replenish my red blood cell count

Nobody answered the question, so I guess none of you know what a carb is either, except for the facetious.
carbohydrate
carb = carbon
hydrate = Hydrogen and Oxygen
Carbohydrate = Bubbles in soda :rolleyes:
or are you referring to the other carbohydrate that refers to a broad class of polyhydroxylated aldehydes and ketones commonly sugars?

Carbohydrates are organic compounds that consist of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. They vary from simple sugars containing from three to seven carbon atoms to very complex polymers. Only the hexoses (sugars with six carbon atoms) and pentoses (sugars with five carbon atoms) and their polymers play important roles in nutrition. Carbohydrates in food provide 4 calories per gram. Plants manufacture and store carbohydrates as their chief source of energy. The glucose synthesized in the leaves of plants is used as the basis for more complex forms of carbohydrates. Classification of carbohydrates relates to their structural core of simple sugars, saccharides. Principal monosaccharides that occur in food are glucose and fructose. Three common disaccharides are sucrose, maltose and lactose. Polysaccharides of interest in nutrition include starch, dextrin, glycogen and cellulose.

Assuming that's correct, how much google time did you spend finding it?

All you have to do is type, "What is a carbohydrate". Ask google the right questions and you'll find the right answers.
But in case you're wondering, it took 0.27 google seconds.
OK I’ll explain slowly…sorry, I had too.
Carbs are the fuel. If you eat lots of cards, but don’t burn lots of carbs with exercise you get fat!
I sit on my butt at work in front of my computer, on teleconferences, and in meetings. During this time my butt gets fat! When I am on my bike riding up and down hills, I am burn carbs and my butt is not getting fat.
If you need to lose weight, cut the carbs! If not, then balance the intake.
