As I was driving home from fire practice, I was pulled over.
Apparently I have a headlight out.
Thank you to the two nice officers who pulled me over. I was terribly confused as to why I was being summoned to the side of the road. I think you picked up on this when I said "Hello. Can I help you?"
Why am I glad? I hate being the guy with the headlight out...so your bringing it to my attention was nice.
Have a great night, ma'ams.
Any of you ever had any nice cop experiences?

Yeah, the last time I was pulled over, this past winter, 67 in a 55 I said I'd really appriciate it if you didn't give me a ticket - he didn't.

Yep, when I was 18 I was driving my Fiero in Michigan UP. I pegged the speedo in 3rd gear, topped out 4th gear, and was about to shift into 5th gear, doing ~110-120 or so, downhill, with a tailwind (seriously).
There was a deer at the bottom of a very long hill, so I started slowing down because slamming on the brakes at that speed would have been a disaster.
A cop came up behind me. He told me he caught me doing 65 in a 45. I said, "ok, sure!" (I was entering an unmanned construction zone. At the time, MI had a 45 mph limit in construction zones and they didn't sign them because it was just understood, unlike MN.)
He asked me what I was doing, and I said driving around for fun instead of staying on campus and drinking. He liked that answer. He asked to see my trunk. Well, the engine is in the back, so when I opened the "trunk" and he saw the engine, he simply said "okay, have a nice day" and walked away.
I figured I got sooooooooo lucky that I haven't sped once or left the right lane since then (about 10 years ago).

Boo camera on a stick!
Jalapeños on sticks are better.
Or battered hotdogs.
Holy crap, I haven't had a corn dog in forever.
Yup, I was remodeling a second floor bathroom and spent a HOT dusty day hanging drywall. It had to be over 90 degrees. It was also a few days before school started, and I had to drive past a school at the end of the day. My partner and I where both filthy, sweaty, and smelly, my tool where visable in the back of the car. The police where STRICKLY enforcing the 25 mph speed limit near the school, as they should. They where pulling about every other third car over, I was one of them. The cop looks in, asks for credentials, and asks, "Where you going?" (why do they ask that, it's none of thier business). I'm going home to cool off, was my answer. He tells me that I was going to fast for a school zone, looks at us again, and asks "Is you driving record clean?" Of course I tell him yes. Then he says "Alright, slow down, and have a nice night." He hands me back my stuff and walks away.

cop: Did you know you were going 50 in a 35 zone?
me: I'm sorry, I'm unfamiliar with the area, and am pretty lost.
cop: I see you're from Minnesota. where are you headed this late at night?
me: I'm from Minnesota, I go to college in Menomonie, was in Milwaukee for a concert, and am supposed to be staying with a friend in Madison.
cop: Let me get you some directions and send you on your way.
Directions, no ticket.

5pm-ish.
Charlotte, NC
I was cruising at around 90mph when I see blue lights. I pull over and before I can get any of my paperwork out, the cop is at the window.
Cop: The speeds limit is 65 not 90
Me: Yes sir
Cop: Slow it down
Me: Ok, thank you.
That was the entire conversation, verbatim.
Edit: Can't count on my hands and toes the amount of times I've been pulled over and I don't think I've ever had a bad experience with a single officer.

This past Saturday:
Me sitting on the side of the road with road rash on every limb, the police officer stopped, asked me if I needed any help, I said "I don't know, my hand kinda hurts", and without any more being said, he called for the ambulance. Yaaaay, can't wait to see what my bill will be. It was awfully courteous for him to do that though. This whole triathlon thing is costing a lot.

There are a lot of speed traps around there. They are getting more popular nowadays as I am starting to see em everywhere. I just think they are pointless to be honest.

During a ride along with a sheriff I was allowed to help with an arrest on a jerk that was beating his girlfriend with a fireplace poker. I had to examine her (I was an EMT) and found injuries in strange places.
She failed to testify in court because her boyfriend loved her.
Words fail me.
But the cop was great, here is his quote.
"If you move funny I will shoot you" While he was holding his taser.

La Cholla has one North of Orange Grove (I think...might be North of River).
River has one between Alvernon and Campbell.
Swan has one between River and Sunrise.
There's one on Irvington past Mission (if you're going to Casino Del Sol).
There are red light cameras at the intersections of Tanque Verde/Sabino Canyon, 22nd/Wilmot (I think), River/Oracle.
I know I missed some...but I'll get those when I remember them. :)

I passed an unmarked car on a two lane road. I was behind the unmarked car and the unmarked was behind a Cadillac doing 45 in a 55. I was doing nearly 100mph by the time I got around the two.
He gave me a 56 in a 55. That was nice enough for not taking me to jail, but I don’t think I should have got a ticket for that.
I had a cop pass me at about 130mph and pull a group of us over. He gave me speed greater than reasonable and a small fine. I’m not going to even mention that the speed limit was there. He was a nice fellow, said he wasn’t going to butt **** us since we didn’t run.

The cops here are pretty nice really. We have one traffic cop for about 100 square kilometers. I tried to get my license for a motorcycle, but showed up with an ATV which has an semiauto clutch, auto fail. Well, I can't get back again for a while, so I was passing the traffic cop and asked our mechanic to stop and ask if I could have permission to ride my motorcycle between the plantations (which is all I want). The policeman said "Sure Don Fred, no problem at all."
We also had a whole group of police descend on us about a week ago, seems one of our employees was behind on child support payments. Here, it is either pay on the spot, or go to jail. I think that is pretty cool too. When they told me why they were looking for the person, I told them how to find him.

I've had quite a few good experiences with cops, but then I never have been looking to make them hte bad guys.
Back in college I have a '57 Chevy. One day I was driving on Eagle Rock Blvd drinking a coke and a cop pulled up and motioned withhis hand to show him what I was drinking. I did and he basically said 'Sorry, but I had to check' some here would have made him a bad guy for this. I thought it was fine.
I had a cop who gave me a ticket for going 65 (back when hte limit was 55). Oh did I mention his first words were not 'Sir do you know how fast you were going?', they were 'Sir do you know how long it took me to catch you?'. I was going about 105. I wasn't zig zaging through cars, the road was pretty clear, but under the letter of the law he could have nailed me.
A CHP seargent pulled me over when I was doing 80 the spirit of the conversation was like this.
Son, do you have $40 you want to throw away?
No sir.
Then slow down.
After that he was gone. I passed him within 5 miles. He had someone else. Any bets he still did just fine on any measure of how many tickets he wrote?
Last one was a few years ago. A not so nice neighbor called the police claiming we had someone living in the camper parked in front. Fact was we had just returned from vacation and were getting it unloaded after work. Police told us why they were there and asked if anyone was living in it. I said no and asked if they woul dlike to check. They said no. Before leaving they mentioned that if hte neighbor had done things right he would have called parking enforcement, so I should keep an eye open for chalk marks on the tires. (any bets that if I had been a bad enough jerk he at the least would not have warned me and at the worst called parking enforcement himself?).

Back when I was 19 (long long time ago) I was caught street racing. The Officer lectured me on how he'd just been to an accident where an "a**sehole like me killed someone".
I woke up to myself at that point and realized the stupidity and danger of such recklessness.
He wrote me a ticket and I was on my way.
Now further to this, fortunately / unfortunately, the officer failed in his duties.
ie. The ticket read 160 km/h in an 80 km/h zone....It was actually a 70 km/h zone.
The ticket read that the offence took place in Springwood...It was actually in Underwood.
I also believe that such a ridiculous lack of respect for the speed zone is supposed to be delt with by the court and not simply by a ticket.
I wrote to the commissioner for police and to the courts, and explained the situation and errors. I pleaded guilty to the fact I was speeding, and the matter was then delt with accordingly.
Result because of the Officer's failures was a $120 fine and no demerit points.

I went to my freshman year of high school in El Monte. Rough town all around. Even back in the 70's my brother had a gun pulled on him.

El Monte police is cool all around unless youre a serius criminal, then you're getting an ass kicking. They catch them too! They generally don't harass the citizens much and let people go with warnings. They will call off tow trucks even if they have called them already when the people show up. They will sometimes put themselves in danger for people instead of property (thats freaking rare for a cop to do nowadays). Actually I have never come across any police that were completely unreasonable. No bad experiences with them.
Now the Sheriffs in neighbooring cities on the other hand are the worst excuse for law enforcement I have ever seen. They don't seem to ever catch anybody unless they turn themselves in. My brother was almost shot in the head by these fools when they oped fire on an unarmed suspect while he was running through a crowded park. they didnt catch him by the way cause he hid behind bushes (bushes for gods sake!). I have had many, many, encounters with these jerks. Cowards to the last.

Alright, here's a story from a few weeks ago.
I was doing a fire shoot (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/SingingSabre/Fire/IMG_8736smallwtmk.jpg) in an abandoned, derelict warehouse. The model was my friend Gieselle and my pal Billy was there as a second shooter and assistant.
Of course, as this is a derelict abandoned warehouse, there are a good amount of no trespassing signs. These are easily bypassed by twisting a bit of wire and pulling the chain link segments away from each other.
We wrap up the shoot and are packing up. There's one source of light: my strobe. In order to finish packing, the strobe needs to go off. However, turning the strobe off would then make it near impossible to pack up. Billy, Gieselle, and I are debating what to do when the cops show up.
We kill the light. He drives around to the back of the warehouse, where we are parked. He still hasn't seen us. He finds our cars, and we decide to go up and let him know there are three of us and we're unarmed.
Backup comes. We figured there would be backup as, after all, it was a lone cop coming to a warehouse not knowing what he was going to encounter.
They run our plates, ask who we are and tell us to get going. We tell them we're packing up, and if they'd like, they can come with us. The do...and then we realize that hey, they can give us light!
"Could we use your lights to help us pack up?"
"Sure, no problem," said one of the officers as he walked to his car to turn the side lights on to us."
"So what are you doing out here," said the other cop.
"Oh, just a photoshoot," I said.
"What for?"
"Portfolio work."
"Really?" said the cop. "I can't blame you. This place is awesome for that sort of thing."
Then they tell us that they showed up because a neighbor (where the hell is a neighbor out in the middle of nowhere?!) saw a fire and was concerned we were going to start another blaze like one it had a few years ago.
They end up seeing our fire dancing tools and ask about that. Jig's up! I thought. They ended up talking endlessly about how they thought fire dancing was the coolest thing. And then they helped us carry stuff back to the car. Billy and I ended up giving them our cards in case they wanted any family portraits or anything.
It was a cool night. :)
