hi

i recently turned 18 and finished school, and with the recession i am unable to get a job, so i decided to buy an exercise bike with what money i had and start getting healthier in my new spare time

how many kilometres should i bike a day to start a healthy loss in fat?

i weight about 100kg (mostly fat) im not sure if that makes a difference

thanks

According to the surgeon general and people like that, the recommendation is 60-90 minutes of moderate exercise per day, every day.

If you're just starting out and have not ridden a bicycle in a long time ... go for a few 20 minute rides, build up to 30 minutes, and continue to build up till you're doing 60-90 minutes per day.

don't count miles, count time. Your body does not know how "far" it goes on a ride, but has a very good internal clock.

The answer is a whole bunch. It takes about 70 miles to burn a lb of fat for someone your size. That is assuming, of course, that you do not eat a single calorie as a consequence of your workout. Fat goes a long, long, long way.

A better approach is to remove as many empty calories from your diet as possible as well as do aerobic exercise. The combination can be very effective.

This is going to take some time. You did not get to that weight in a few weeks and you will not lose it in a few weeks.

I agree with the last post. It will probably be better for you to start slow and then ramp your way up. In my experience, people that start with more dedicated "plans" are the most likely to fall back. Start with investigating deficiencies in your diet and simple exercise, and then work your way up.

As for the bike, ride for however long it feels fun, whether it's five minutes or five hours. The most important component about losing "fat" weight is by being active.
