Northeast - 3rd Nature Cycling

Just want to share how sad I am that this wonderful bike store in Teaneck, NJ has gone out of business - I'm assuming a victim of the economic downturn. It's been closed for weeks now, but I wasn't sure that it was closed for good until I got confirmation today. The store was absolutely beautiful, the bikes awesome to behold, and the staff was just super to work with. I was way out of their league when I brought my Brompton folding bike in and asked if they could help me modify it by adding a front chain ring. They treated me with total respect and did the job gladly. They took the time to answer all my questions about bike maintenance. I'm just so sad it's closed now - what a terrible shame.

Thank you Michael and Paul and the mechanic(s) at 3rd Nature. I wish you all success in what comes next for you all.

It's always a shame when businesses close and people are out of work. I always wanted to visit 3rd Nature but not being open on Saturdays was a bit of a problem since the weekends are when most people make it out to shops outside of the city. I saw the interior of the shop through the website and it looked great, but like Cadence NYC, they catered to a specific crowd and you have to be able to cater to the majority of cyclists who aren't keen to drop thousands on a bike. When I went to Cadence I thought "great looking shop, but I can get the same stuff cheaper elsewhere" and that thought is probably echoed through lots of cyclists who want to support their LBS so long as they don't have to pay too much to do so.

Yes, it must be particularly difficult these days for any retail store to compete. While the bikes they sold were way out of my league, if I had been in that market I would have considered some extra expense worth the knowledge and passion of the staff though.

i dont know. i have met several people that were severely mis fit there. one woman who was at leat 5'11" was fit to a 52 cm look road bike. i think it was all style and no substance
