Holy Crap! Mayo takes first in the prologue?! Granted Tyler and Lance are 1 and 2 seconds behind. I knew Mayo was working on his time trialing skills but this is a great result for him in terms of looking towards the tour. With only the one flat time trial and the uphill time trial Mayo has to be considered a podium contender I think. We all know he will most likely be in the top 10 at the very least, top 5 most likely. But now it looks like he is moving up. It'll be interesting to see the results on Thursday's Mt. Ventoux time trial. I thought OLN was going to show some of this but I cant find it on there website. Does anyone know for sure if they are going to show or not show at least an hour recap?

On one of the Roads to the Tours, Bob Roll said Mayo would be a top challenger to Lance for the Tour de France this year. Looks like Mayo is serious.

This was a somewhat unusual prologue in that it went up a cat. 4 climb. :) Good to see his fine result though. Stage 4 should be interesting.

Mayo won last year's prologue at the Dauphine also, and beat Armstrong by ten seconds that time. So I'm not sure if this really tells us anything.

After reading the report and hearing of the climb and mayo's win last year I take back some of my enthusiasm. Yet I still think mayo will be a more major player that lance and postal wont be able to let him go anytime. He is definetly a marked man, especially with the TTT new rules. Anybody check out Lance's new TT helmet? Tyler looks like he has a new one also. Go to grahamwatson.com Lance's looks just like the old one except extends higher on the head, due to the padding I would imagine. Tyler's doesnt look as aero but is still better than a normal road helmet with the plastic covering.

Yeah, I saw the new helmets and I still miss the old plastic fairings. However, I like Lance's and Jan's helmets the best out of all the new legal ones.

Mayo did win last year's Dauphine prologue as has already been stated, so this is not a big deal. The true test comes on Thursday.

At the very least, it proves that Mayo is on form, and will be a threat @ this year's TdF. Could he be the MAN this year? I can't wait to find out! :)

i donno, he did it on a "non-TT" bike. Have you seen the pics of it? The normal bars and really stubby clip on aero bars..... I will still give him props for taking first place....

Euskaltel has a much smaller budget than a lot of Div I teams. They don't have a lot of the super trick, super lightweight equipment. Although with Mayo a podium contender I think they will have more than last year for him

Last year when Mayo won on L'Alpe d'Huez he rode a stardard team issue columbus starship tubed Orbea, with Kysriums.
