I bought this stationary bike http://www.smoothfitness.com/exercise-bikes/smooth-ub4.htm about 8 weeks ago to get in shape and have lost about 17 pounds in that time. Now im 22 about 5'8 240 pounds but recently my right knee is giving me some problems idk why its not that bad though. but it seems like its hurts in diffrent parts of my right knee at diffrent times like sumtimes its the inside thigh area of my knee and now its like a little bit above my kneecap its kind of a dull sharp pain that comes and goes. Anybody have any idea what this is or whats hurting or how to get rid of it? I usually worked out 1 hour almost every day but the past 3 weeks i went down to 30 mins cause of the random pain and not wanting to mess up my knee more. And I usually go at "9" on the resistence meter which is about 16-19mph, 175-220 watts, 70-85 rpm and at the end of 30 mins ive completed 9 miles. My seat seams to be fine cause my legs when extended have a slight bend and when my arms reach the handlebars i can bend them a little I dont know if its my riding position. So if anyone has any idea plz let me know thnx.

Forgot to mention this new pain only really hurts when im sitting down and i have a low chair so my knees are a lil past 90 degrees bent

Hard to say...maybe 90 rpm at 8 resistance would be better. Since your strongest muscles are involved in pedaling its very common on the road for people to use too much strength (a hard gear + slow pedaling speed) and wear out their knees. The numbers may or may not look as good on the machine, but a higher rpm at a lower strength setting is probably a better cardio workout.

Pain at a 90 degree bend is more likely the saddle too low than too high, but your position could also be just fine.

yea i will try a lower resistance seems logical buy should i do that now even when my knee still has that nagging sporadic dull pain in my knee (which now is randomly both on top or the inside thigh are of my knee) or should i wait till it goes away which may be a while?

I'm not sure I'd take my own advice on what's basically medical stuff, but last year I had the same kind of pain off and on and just rode through it. I started taking a "joint health" supplements, first flax oil then glucosamine/chondroitin & MSM, but I can't say for sure whether they had any effect. I can say I rode 10 miles + every day, and it healed up fine.

Once you irritate the knee, it can stay pissed for a while. Ice it down after every ride. If you could show up a pic from the side with the pedal all the way down, that might helps us see what's going on.

If this doesn't clear up soon, see a Doc.

Well i found that this bike has something were you input your weight, height, sex, age, then it takes your pulse at resting to calculate your BMR(2250cal), BMI(36.6), and Fat %(31.3) then sets up a I guess bike routine. Its 40 min total it puts me at res 3 for 5min, then res 5 for 5min, then res 9 for 15min, then res 7 for 5min then res 5 for 5min, then back to res 3 for 5min. I think it was just jumping into the higher resistance or the fact that i didnt warmup b4 the workouts i was doing b4 but this gives me the warmup and warmdown and its been a couple days and my knee feels so much better. So thanks for all the advice.
