Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just got some puncture resistant tubes to go with the stock tires that came with my bike that I got in February. I had thought about getting some sort of puncture resistant tires as an upgrade when the current ones wear out, but wondered if having puncture resistant tubes with them would be overkill? Would they be extra weight that wouldn't make much difference in preventing flats? Thanks for the help!

There's about forty-leven threads on this subject and the consensus always seems to be Armadillos. The new ones have less rolling resistance then previous years models.

Personally, I run Bontrager Hard Cases. When I first got them, I thought I had been ripped off, but now, with 1,000 miles on them, I like them. They roll just fine, they are not heavy, and they have resisted all but the worst of the debris on the road.

Skip the thicker or Slime tubes. With the Armadillo you can use ultralight tubes and still get lowest percentage of flats currently available on the market. Tubes don't prevent flats, you have to stop it before it hits the tube; and Slime doesn't work above 65psi.
