Hey Everyone,
I’ve used BF as an invaluable resource several times, and I figured it would best to go to people who are in the know (mods, I apologize if this needs to be moved to the Training forum).
So here’s the deal, at the end of August, I’m doing the California Coastal Race for Hemophilia (and if you feel like donating (http://www.active.com/donate/coastalrace09/vburns09), I won’t stop ya!). I’ve never been a long distance rider, the longest ride that I’ve previously done is about 65-75 miles. Except for the last year or so, I used to ride quite a bit more. I’d say on average between 100-125 miles per week. I know that’s not a lot compared to the people here, but it was what scheduling allowed.
Since this ride happens at the end of August, I need to get myself as prepared as well/quickly as I can and I’d like some opinions on how wrong my thinking is on a “regimen.” I’ll run it down quickly and open the floor to the experts:
- First 2-4 weeks:
* Ride 3-5 times a week mornings, 15-20 miles.
* Once on the weekend, 25-40 miles.
- The 4-6 weeks from that point:
* Ride 3-5 times a week mornings, 15-20 miles
* At least one night ride, 25-30 miles
* One weekend ride, 40-60 miles
- From that point to the actual ride:
* Ride 3-5 times a week mornings, 15-20 miles
* At least two evening rides (perhaps on the same day as a morning ride?), 30-40 miles
* Once on the weekend, 50-70 miles.
So, am I going about this completely wrong? Also, what should I do a few days before the ride, just completely shut it down, or ride sparingly?
I appreciate any advice that you folks can offer.
P.S. – I already did a 25 mile ride yesterday and 14 miles this morning.
