Hello all,
I tried searching this but I'm unfamiliar with the correct terms so I may have missed something.
Ok back in the day all forks i ever had were threaded so when you tightened down the top headset nut it all pulled together and your forks were tight and then you put your stem in the fork tube and tightened that down.
Well my new bike isn't like that as all of you probably know (I don't know when this new style started to come out) So here's my problem:
I noticed a bit of clunk in my forks, like if I grab the front brakes and push and pull back and forth there's some play there. So I take the stem off (which is directly clamped onto the top of the fork tube) and then I realize that it seems that the fork "tightness" is directly related to how well seated the bottom headtube cup is seated (I say this because I have to pull the fork with one hand to seat it, it doesn't just go to a seated position if the tire is resting on the ground) and then how hard you can get the stem pushed down while trying to tighten the stem bolts and also keep the bars and front tire straight. :cry:
I hope that made some sense. Please tell me how you guys are doing this so I can get rid of my clunk and not go insane in the process.

P.S. I have an 08 DB Response Comp. (MTB with shocks in front) if it matters.
