See, I turn 60 this year, and denial is in full swing. Then, too, some days I sense I’m just now starting to regain the conditioning I had before injuring my back five years ago, ending my years of running and coaching. The denial no doubt prodded me to ride the 5100 miles and 20 centuries so far this year.

Saturday’s 103 miles were planned, but made somewhat of a chore by the cold, dreary weather. Sunday was simply gorgeous, and I couldn’t pass up riding all day, netting 105 miles. Today I had the day off and started off riding, intending to come back early for some chores. But that denial monkey sat on my shoulder all morning, daring me to go on. So I ended with 101. Three days, three centuries – sounded kinda neat, having not done anything like it before.

And what did it get me? In the midst of this veritable onslaught of age-defying athletic endeavor I stopped at McDonalds and Taco Bell. The counter help gave me the senior discount. They didn’t even ask…

I'm impressed.

Don't scoff at the senior discounts.

At least you weren't carded!

It sounds like you may be ready for RAINstorm (http://www.triri.org/storm.html), or at least the Quad-Century route on DALMAC (http://www.biketcba.org/DALMAC/2009/DALMAC09routes.pdf).

If I rode three centuries in three days, I know I would look old enough to qualify for a senior discount. Congrats.

That's some serious riding! Three back to back centuries just for jollies is just too cool! You're my hero. :thumb:

Sounds like you training for an Ultra marathon. There is such a group near where I live, such insanity as a 200 mile ride to Montreal followed by the subsequent return (they give you a rest day inbetween), or four loops around a 136 mile course in the Adirondaks for a total of 540 miles non-stop. Now that is insane.

I've done back-to-back century days before, but not three. Now you've thrown down the gauntlet, and it's ON!

Congrats!

I've done two in a row, but three is starting to get pretty insane. I am impressed.

I rode ten miles yesterday does that count? Good job on the riding...and getting the discount too. I suppose there is something more you could ask for but what more could you ask for............

akansaskid,

You are so ready for a double century!

If you can do three centuries in a row, you can do two in one day, for sure!

Exactly my thought yesterday during the third. The first century we ever do is exciting; it's almost a rite of passage. Two in a row is approached daringly: can I really do it; how good a shape am I really in? Dare I say it, but the third almost becomes drudgery. Perhaps mine was tainted because the third day had the most wind. Then, too, you're ready to get your life back.

So I understand everyone's sentiments here; I had the same thoughts. But a day after it's over, it's certainly something to look back on. Keep in mind this was all unplanned. I'm not sure I could drum up enough motivation ahead of time to actually schedule such a ride. Better to see what each new morning brings.

Thanks for all the encouraging replies! But let's not lose sight of the point: All this health stuff, and I STILL get the senior discount! What's up with that? :D
