Foo - How do you relax / meditate?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I find the best way to put myself in a relaxed state is to juggle. There's something about the hypnotic patterns that puts a person into a trance-like state.
I think I have short attention span syndrome. Listening to people talk for too long a time puts me in a trancelike state.

I watch Esteban infomercials. If he's not on, I channel surf, looking for Billy Mays.
I when realized I should not worry about the things I cannot change. My life got a lot simpler. I knit sometimes, and i do modular origami, and do not worry about the final result.

Haven't tried it yet. I'm afraid I'm going to overstretch certain areas :twitchy:
I drink a beer.
I can drink to that.

Why do I have the feeling that you have some very long scarves knitted :p

There is not much to meditation, because it is an absence of thought. Not that it's easy, but the theory behind it isn't very complex.

I draw. It soothes me because I usually get depressed when I don't feel like I'm doing something fun and/or productive.
I really like this thread, It's soothing because I also do a lot of the things other people do. Like go for an extremely long shower, I get too restless in a bathtub from lying down too much, and I'm drinking a beer as I type!

I putter in the garden. Pick snails, deadhead roses, pull weeds, etc.

I ride my bike :D
Oh, and I also do yoga and knit. Not at the same time.
Purring cats are excellent aids to meditation., and yes, I must also agree about the beer. Mmmm. Beeeeeer.

Also, tea.

I'm having tea now. But it doesn't purr or cuddle up to me.
Take the ol' industrial-size Blend-O-Matic to the local preschool.
Will it blend? You're damn right they will.

*sends some kitty purrs to Siu*
(seriously, the cat's sitting on top of the computer, that's GOT to mean we can transmit the purrs somehow!)

I used to meditate, but then I took up cycling and there was a time conflict ~ cycling as mediation won.
I also putter in the backyard, pull weeds. Also knitting.

Working in my shop is extremely relaxing and rarely do I get frustrated with any piece of work but the best thing is wheel building.
After that... scotch and big honkin' naps.

I ride.
I eat fire. I drink beer. I do photography (taking and editing photos). Combining the middle one with either the first or the last works, as well.
Camelbak. Whisky. Sports car. Route 1.

 I like infomercials too, but mainly as background to relax by reading the newpaper.

I find a quiet spot on our local lake and sit. Or go for a walk or a loong drive.

One part couch, 6 parts vodka. Rinse and repeat.

Ride my bike, go for a walk, play violin or piano.
Relax? With 2 overly active kids, 2 dogs, and a cat? Are you kidding?
The only quiet time I get is first thing in the morning if I sacrifice some sleep time, and right before I fall asleep at night. If I want to escape, it's a bike ride.

nothing beats mind numbing stress then to slap on a pair of running sneakers and pound some pavement in central park!

If you overstretch those areas, you're doing it wrong. Take yourself to a yoga studio and take a beginner's class. They will show you proper technique and encourage you to stretch only as much as is comfortable for you.

Go for a walk in a forest. Did that Monday - nothing like the quiet, listening to the birds or movement of squirrels or chipmunks in the leaves. Then ended up lying on the rock at the top of a cliff in the sun watching the hawks and buzzards flying overhead.

You know how it feels when you are leaning back in your chair and almost fall backwards, but then catch yourself?
I feel like that all the time.
I when realized I should not worry about the things I cannot change. My life got a lot simpler.
That's been a hard lesson for me.

I know I am only a few weeks into this divorce thing but that did it big time for me.
While I am busy as all heck and constantly swamped I am not stressed out.
In fact knowing that my future has improved and not being in a relationship in a nose dive I feel quite a bit better. For the first time in 5 years life is good.

Not being in a relationship is pretty sweet isn't it? My divorce will be final in about a month.
