Mountain Biking - Confused about CB pedals?

I have been reading alot lately about the differences between the Crank Brothers Candy C's vs. Candy SL's. Alot of vendors are saying that the Candy C has a Cromo spindle, but the SL is stainless.

If you go to Crank Brothers website, they list the spindles as the same material. I spoke with a rep at Crank Brothers today and he told me that the only difference is that the SL's are lighter b/c of the metal they removed. I asked which one was the strongest b/c I need to have a pedal that will not try to stab me in the shin bone with the spindle. He said that the SL will be "as strong" as the Candy C. Neither are stronger.

I've seen the SL's come into the shop a lot with broken spindles. Don't trust them. The weight difference isn't that much, so I'd say go for the C's. Who were you looking at that said they had different spindle material?

I'm starting to think my love affair with CrankBros pedals is ending. I have three bikes with different CB pedals and three different pairs of shoes that have cleats. I am starting to get really annoyed with the amount of float they have from how easily and quickly the cleats wear out.

idk about the candy but on the eggbeater, the body and wings are stainless.

they also just came out with a new pedal "SC cast steel" level, dunno whats up with that

the cleats are made of a softer metal so they wear out without putting wear on the pedal itself, but yeah having to replace cleats as often as you do with cb is a tad annoying, mine have needed replacement for like 2 months now, i prolly have a set somewhere i just never remember to do it

Mine were a gift from my wife. I have a hard time giving up things that were given to me as a Birthday or Christmas present...unless they're totally trashed w/o any chance of warranty.

I love my SPD's. Haven't had to replace the cleat yet, they have 3-4 races, and lots of miles on them... a few crashes as well.

I am back to SPD's after trying CB's for a year. I didnt like how on really rough rock gardens, hitting your pedal on a rock on the down stroke would eject your foot from that pedal.
