Rebuilding/renovating my old road bike with mafac competition center pulls. My wifes bike has mafac racers which use the same pads. Every once in a while I see NOS available but am wondering what new brake pads fit. Please help me out and give specific models if you can. I looked at Kool Stops and it seems the eagle 2 and thinline smoothstud would work. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob Skillman Ellicott City MD

Koolstops seem to be the replacement of choice. Or at least that's what similar threads have indicated.

Has been a long time since I've had a bike with Mafacs.

The Bell pads that Wal-Mart sells will work. They seem to work well on my bike that has Mafac Racers. The diameter of the mounting studs is smaller than the stock pads, so to get them to be tight you will need to put one of the included washers over the mounting block and behind the pad pin. Hard to explain, but easy to do. Basically you make up for the slightly smaller pin. If I had my camera today, I'd shoot a shot for you.

They seem to work great, and only cost like $3.00. They come with several different washers and nuts for different applications. Scrap the parts you don't need. They look pretty sharp too.
