Mountain Biking - 03' JAMIS DURANGO SX- Online Retailer

I'm looking into building a second bike at the moment, so trying to find some advice on bits and pieces. Anyone ever got on a 03' Jamis Durango SX frame? These are pretty good looking frames on sale at JensonUSA.com for $109. Was wondering how well they would hold up for light trail/city riding for a heavy weight. Has anyone ever dealt with JensenUSA.com or PricePoint.com?

I've dealt with both mailorder companies and have had much success with both. I also worked in a shop that was a "non-stocking" Jamis dealer. We could get them, we just didn't stock them. Wish we did, they're good bikes for the price.

I saw that frame at Jenson. It's a good frame. The frame should hold up fine for you. Being a heavyweight myself, I worry less about the frame than I do the wheels. The frame will be fine, just buy a heavier duty set of wheels. Something like some RynoLite rims laced to a decent hub like an XT.

Also, I highly recommend stiffer springs for whatever fork you buy (if a coil sprung).

Looked like a nice frame from the websitee, but it's sometimes hard to tail. Do you recommend one fork over another? I wanted to spend something around $200 for it, anything more and I'd probably just be throwing away money. Mostly this would be a light trail/city bike. And what model are the rims you like?

I think a2 likes the sun rynolite rims. Not sure about the hubs.

I find it really hard to find threadless rigid forks nowadays. Espically when your looking for 8inch+ steerer if you tall and have a big frame.

Well in that case then there are some suspension forks in the link I posted above. They are a bit over $200 though.

For a heavier rider, I would steer you towards more Heavy Duty "Freeride" type components. If you want a very sweet deal, head over to www.wheelworld.com and check out the "Freeride Build Kit" everything you need except a frame, for $800. Wheels AND a sweet fork, plus EVERYTHING! Some of the stuff isn't the greatest, but for the price it's pretty sweet.

I of course would buy the Kona Scab frame available there for $179 and the build kit and have a SWEET heavy duty bike for under a grand. However, that may be a bit OVERKILL for your style of riding.

I just went to Wheelworld's website and they've got it for $1099, but I think I just saw their ad in my latest MBA mag and it was marked down to $799. Call them to verify!
