Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi, I have a Holdsworth Special which until recently I thought was just a rather old but nice, light frame and cycle. Someone told me that it may be collectable so I thought I'd try to find out more about it and maybe start to look after it a bit better (Some of you may be horrified to see I'm pulling along a tag-along and my 18kg son)! The frame number appears to be 051150. Some photos of the lugs decals etc are here: http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/BagnallR/Holdsworth?authkey=Gv1sRgCO7RqqzCgOvscw&feat=directlink . Thanks in advance.
Best Wishes,
Richard Bagnall
Well, I can not help you with value, but I can tell you that when I sold a Holdsworth (here in the U.S.A.- Kansas ) I got a lot of interest from several states.

If you haven't already, check out ths site which has catalog scans:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nkilgariff/
yours is an '80s model and given a quick look at the specs for "Specials" on that site, it seems unusual for one to be built with the 531ST tubing (since IIRC that's the "touring" weight tubeset). Most Specials were intended for "fast touring" and built from 531C, they were offered as complete bikes as well as just frames.
It's a fine bike, and deserves good treatment...whether "collectible" or not depends on many factors: your location and local demand being most important, unless you want to sell on an international auction site like eBay...then it's whatever the world market will bear (right now: not so much a seller's market in most places).
