Today I discovered that the slight click-click coming from the area of my BB turned out to be my CB Eggbeaters instead. According to the data sheet that accompanied my other set of pedals, CB Candy's, a grease gun, after removing the end cap, can be used with an adapter to squeeze grease thru the pedal, thus forcing the old stuff out the other side. An operation that should be performed every 100-300 hours.
Not having a grease gun, I discovered that just removing the end cap, laying in a bead of Park Tools bike grease and then reinstalling the cap had the same effect. After three turns, black gunk came out the other side. I added two more dollops for good measure and now my pedals operate smoothly. And quietly. :)
I'm not sure if this would work with the Candy's because the illustrated parts diagram indicates a nut inside the end cap which is not on the regular eggbeater.
My pedals probably have about 300 hours of use under all sorts of conditions.
