Coming back from our 172 km ride I noticed one of the eyelets on the rear rim has come loose. Is this serious. It is a DRC 40 hole rim that is about one and a half years old. I have not inspected the rim closely for crakcs and other. Would this mean rim replacement or is there a way around it.

Depends on the term "loose." If the eyelet is pulled out of the rim, and/or there is cracking in the rim around the eyelet, this normally means the rim is shot. A pulled eyelet normally means that the spoke can't be tensioned properly anymore.

If the eyelet is just loose, and the spoke can have proper tension, then that may not be much of a deal.

My mistake, the eyelet sits inside the rim, this portion is still OK. The portion that came loose was the rivet seen on the outside of the rim. This and the eyelet are two different things and the shop said the DRC rep will most likely change the rim. If not the "rivet" can be pressed back on. A new rim is also not that expensive.

My rim was replaced after one and a half years use. Thanx DRC rep and Bouwer Broers. I only had to pay for a few replacement spokes and washers. Rebuilt was for their account!!!!!!
