So, we've all heard of "track hack" or "pursuiter's cough" or whatever you want to call it when you cough right after a burst of exertion. I think what I am asking about is different, as it happens under certain temperature conditions.

I remember when i was a kid, and went to play outside in the afternoon/evening and stayed out to dusk. After I'd stopped running around and had calmed down a bit, it would often happen that I'd cough (unproductively) if I took a deep breath. I'd forgotten about this until the other day, after a long ride at that time of day. I had assumed it was some combination of exercise and the drop in air temperature (and change in humidity) at dusk, but now I've been thinking. Anyone else noticed this? Sound like asthma? Allergies? I rode all this past icy and cold-as-hell Chicago winter with no problem at all.

I had forgotten about this for so long because it only happens after relatiely long bouts of exercise, with the air cooling, and only lasts for a few minutes afterward. So the cough isn't at all troublesome, and never presents during exercise.

I have EIA and cough a good bit after a very hard ride, and the next day as well. Productively, as it's said. Yuckers. I'm training to be a DOM. But usually not during the ride. Cold weather makes it a good bit worse. I hardly notice it in the summer.

In your case, it might be allergies. Perhaps plants in your area release pollens at that time of day, this time of year.

I was hacking up a storm at the end of a long ride Sunday. I am sure it was due to the pollen that was making everything yellow. What made it worse was the light drizzle - then the pollen got mixed with the water into a flying goo that I don't think my lungs liked very much. Hard to keep your mouth shut while biking though isn't it ...
