Holy hell, there's way too much going on in NYC for free or low cost during the summer. Just sticking to movies, here's a few links:
River Flicks (http://www.hudsonriverpark.org/events.asp) (look on the LHS for the link to the movie schedule) - FREE
Rooftop Films (http://www.rooftopfilms.com/summerseries.html) - $
Movies on the Hudson - Riverside Park South (http://nycgovparks.org/sub_things_to_do/events/output_pages/images/summer_on_the_hudson.pdf) - FREE
Movies with a View (http://www.brooklynbridgepark.org/index.cfm?objectid=EF670B44-3048-2C77-F20C2202337458ED) @ Brooklyn Bridge Park - FREE

Don't forget there's also Shakespeare in the park, Shakespheare in the other park, Summerstage, Philharmonic in the park, kayaking on the Hudson, etc. ad infinitum. Looking at other cities offerings and we're blessed like a mofo.

word.

also Socrates Sculpture Park (http://www.liqcity.com/arts/the-north-corner-of-lic-beckons-socrates-sculpture-park-film-festival) in Astoria/LIC

The Brooklyn Bridge site is awesome for films. More cozy than Bryant Park, though I love that site as well....

Brooklyn Bridge Park also has a slight rise towards the back where you can camp out and recline while you watch the movie. And there's popcorn. Also way less crowded than Bryant Park, but Bryant Park's been showing movies for years now.

join the club...born and raised here, and I usually rely on people who've just moved here to school me on stuff to do:p

when it's your own back yard you tend to take stuff for granted

Yeah, Bryant is packed - ya gotta get there early and stake out a spot; I only go to the movies I really wanna see now. Breaking Away would be a good one:thumb:

Fulton Ferry State Park (between Bklyn & Mhtn Bridges) is ALWAYS packed beyond belief for the movies. It's just as bad as Bryant Park...

We DC folk are still grousing over HBO's cancellation of "Screen On The Green" in favor of keeping the Bryant Park Fest. :(

Have fun - it's a good lineup this year!
