Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. I just saw that Campy has announced an 11-speed Athena group for 2010. So where does Athena fit in the pecking order? I thought it was below Centaur in the past but, apparently, Centaur and Veloce are remaining 10-speed for the next year at least.

Its going to be between Chorus and Centaur. Athena will be 11s while Centaur will stay 10s
Originally Athena was replaced by Daytona. Which went on to become Centaur. So, now Athena trumps Centaur to become basically the old alloy Chorus which we all loved.

The reintroduction of Athena restores the well-known Campy gruppo marketing plan:
Athena - for the avid recreational rider
Chorus - for the amateur racing rider
Record - for the dentist
(I think this is originally attributed to Andy Muzi at Yellow Jersey bicycles)
is athena all aluminum? maybe people will finally get an 11sp aluminum FD.

Yes, and no.

"We’re also told that the levers are basically alloy Centaur levers wrapped in thin carbon."
See attachment for my reaction.

Seems like Campy has been following Shimano's old example of changing everything every year so that compatibility is a nightmare.
