Anyone know where I can find any info about touring in West Africa? At the end of the year I am going to be doing 27 months of volunteer work for the Peace Corps. I am considering boxing my Trek 7.2 FX and taking it with me and then maybe doing a bit of touring when my service is finished. I should know my country of service by the end of summer but most likely it will be Senegal, Ghana, or Mali.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Visit crazyguyonabike.com You can search journals by locale. Reading some journals from others who have toured the same area would probably give you some ideas for routes.

Lots of resources if you google / search crazyguyonabike.com.
I've found some good sites and posted a few on my website here (http://takeonafrica.com/bike-expedition/not-so-crazy-afterall/).
Another guy I've heard about since, who's just cycled through west africa and is continuing south (theslowwayhome) is writing updates here (http://theslowwayhome.blogspot.com/)

I should be cycling through West Africa from September through to about April next year and keeping my site updated with progress if you're interested in following.
Let me know where you end up - I might just pass through that way!
