Whats your guys take on this? I'm still on the hunt for a budget commuter/tourer and liked the look of this Trek. However when I e-mailed the guy asking what he'd let the bike go for (sans car rack, pump, locks, etc), he quoted me $400. Seems high to me.
Way too high. Seller is clueless on how fast mountain bikes depreciate.

That price is not just high, it's ridiculously high, and I'm toning down my original thoughts about that ad.
Look, I've got a 92, Trek 8500, LX equipped, RockShox air shock still holds air, no leakage. A much nicer bike than the more mundain 7000. If someone offered me $450 for it, they wouldn't have to say it twice. Honestly, I'd be glad to get half that for my better Trek MTB.
That 7000 is a $150 bike around here if someone is looking specifically for an aluminum, no suspension fork Trek 7000, size large, otherwise it's a $100-$125 bike.

If you take your time, you can find bikes of equal quality for $50 or $100. Unless it is in "like new" condition, $150 is very generous.

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
+1 $150 is a generous offer. But some people think they have something special, and it takes a while for them to figure it out. Don't worry, as for $150, you can find another bike.
