Ok so frame is supposed to be pristine hasn't touched it since 86 and was painted just before that by notorious joe bell
56 or 58
campy groupo everything including hubs wrapped to nisi rims
this bike looks pretty solid im just worried as it looks like there may be slight rust in headset and handlebars
if this bike is in decent to great condition how much should i spend on purchasing it.

I'm guessing it's mid-late-70's. Too bad it's a repaint. But heck, it's a track bike. I'd say you could get your money back out of it, if it's clean and Campagnolo equipped, though I'd try to talk him down a little.

yea i know, how bad does the repaint effect the value. i know if it was that nice with original paint it would be alot more, but its still a really nice looking paintjob. the fact that its an actual track frame is a definate plus and then it has the campy groupo.
Has anyone seen one of these sold?

i dont know how it rides im gonna go check it out he said its super solid but he took it off the drome in 86 and its been sitting ever since. yes it should fit relatively well. also i noticed its not pantographed on the seat stays, is that a big deal? does anyone know where to find a picture of this bike stock and component list?
thanks for the help everyone

Pantographing isnt a big deal.
1. Make sure the cranks say 'pista' on the back of the arms.
2. It looks to be full Campy with a Cinelli Unicanitor saddle (I could be wrong). Thats a $100 saddle by itself.
3. Bars are aluminum so its not rust. It should clean up nicely.

The repaint does adversely effect the value. Joe Bell does good paint, the fade is very non original.
$800? yes, if repainted by Joe as original, it would be worth $1,000 easy.
Now, the concern to me are the seat stays, they don't look original to my eye, Colnagos usually had hard to replace double taper stays, the juncture at the seat lug was very small in diameter, Colnago used a plug, these appear more how Masi did them, not a plug, but a section of tube brazed in.
As it is a repaint, stuff like this just brings more questions than answers, but at the price, hard to knock it. I have seen earlier Colnago track frames, but the seat stays all were double taper style.

I don't think those are the usual headlugs with the bite out of them, either?

thats scary to think they replaced the sead stays and headlug. i however think thats highly improbable. i just found these to compare and it seems spot on right???

pista headsets are completely different from the road. They are smaller and more rounded. You can look at my bike (http://www.flickr.com/photos/15174376@N00/sets/72157617964553823/) for pista parts. Track pedals didn't have a quill, because they didn't expect high speed pedal strikes.
Bike in this post has pista pedals and a road headset, at least according to anything that happened up to 1980.

No one's saying necessarily that they replaced the seatstays and headlug - take a step back, or don't ask for help. We're just tossing stuff around - and repechage knows his stuff (even if he was relegated to the second-chance bracket).
The orange bike you linked to has the double taper stays your bike doesn't, apparently, have. So not "spot on." I'm not sure if your bike has the scalloped headlugs, but it doesn't appear to (hence my "?" with my post). The orange one you linked to has the scalloped headlugs. So again, no, not "spot on."
The black one, because of the color and the photo, it's hard to tell. But it may well not have the double taper stays or the scalloped headlugs. The absence of those features may help date yours (especially as the double taper stays disappear circa 1980, which is a plausible date for your bike, IMO). Both repechage and myself think it's a decent buy at $800 - so go get her.
The lack of COLNAGO panto'd in the seat stay cap is an indication that it is no newer than the late 70's. I agree that there are a few details that seem "off" but that doesn't mean bad. Colnago track bikes are actually fairly rare and it could be a custom build that requested stiffer stays. The different lugs would be a stretch but it is incredibly difficult to tell from the pics you posted.

Be glad you didnt get it. I'm no Colnago expert but everything the more knowledgable guys posted earlier has much more validity based on what happened.
