I will be receiving a Ted Williams Free Spirit, Austrian built 531 bike soon from 23skidoo, and I have a question he doesn't know the answer for, and I was curious if anyone else knew before I need to service the BB.

The bike has a French sized headset, so I am curious if anyone knows (or can guess) whether the bottom bracket is likely to be French threaded... It could in theory also be Swiss or English... Probably not Italian.

What BB threading was likely to have been used by Puch/AD during the Early 70's?

The crank is Japanese in case that matters to the timeline, although I know a Japanese crank can be fitted to a BB with any type of threading.

Hmmm, mine is English, and all parts Japanese (most here changed from original).

My top-drawer Puch A-D Reynold's 531 is English-threaded for it's bottom-bracket shell. I gave it a Campagnolo Record BB. That was 1983 - and that BB is as good today as it was then. I just did my yearly overhaul and fed it new balls. The threads on the BB-shell are still perfect as well.
