I have an older style dura ace BB that I need to remove. Are there any common tools that I can use to do that? I am wondering about a clothes hangar cut to fit the holes on the drive side cup and maybe a large crescent wrench for the 36 mm side?
10in or 12in pipe wrench can do it all.
just make sure it has sharp teeth because the dull ones just slip.
if you don't want to marr or scratch the cups and lock rings, use a rag between the cups and pipe wrench.

I've used groove-joint pliers on the lock ring, a pair of needle nose pliers turned by an adjustable wrench on the adjustable cup and large adjustable wrench on the fixed cup.
Thanks guys. I fashioned a pin spanner from a clothes hanger, but I am not sure it is strong enough. I have some 90 degree needle nose that I might try

I've tried a bunch of options for the pin spanner, but nothing beats the real thing. As for the fixed side, the Sheldon (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/tooltips/bbcups.html) tool does the job. Contrary to his advice, I'd avoid using split lock washers; I've actually broken a Campy BB cup that way.
My clothes hangar pin spanner worked well enough (I will be buying one of those) The large crescent wrench was a no go. Just not enough flat to grip on. I will try Sheldon's tool. Thanks for the link, I had not seen that. I am about 30 miles from the closest LBS, so that would be a great solution.

IMHO, just get the right tool for the job, anything else is going to eat the finish.
