My wife and daughter just walk in and said that traffic was backed up on Higgins and Plum Grove Road in Schaumburg due to a cyclist being hit by a car.....not good. I ride by there on a regular basis.

Source: Daily Herald - A 14-year-old riding a bicycle was struck by a car near Higgins and Plum Grove roads in Schaumburg and is apparently in serious condition and was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl asked motorists to avoid the area as the department's traffic reconstruction team has been called in. The investigation could take several hours.
This is serious....Lutheran General is a Level I trauma center. I hope he ends up ok.

As long as we're talking about bad crashes ... there was one last night at the Kenosha Velodrome. One rider taken to the Level One Trauma Center up here too:

I just read an update that seems to strongly imply that the gentleman from the kenosha velodrome incident has passed on.
Horrible.

Track racer dies from head injuries
By Tom Held of the Journal Sentinel
May. 21, 2009 4:30 p.m.
Officials at the Washington Park Velodrome in Kenosha sent out word Thursday afternoon confirming that Donald Vanderbrook had died from the head injuries he suffered in a crash while racing Tuesday night.
Vanderbrook, 50, started racing on the track in Kenosha last year and was competing in a consolation race on the season's opening night. He was wearing a helmet when he crashed in a pack of other riders.
Other competitors watched somberly, as paramedics attended to the cyclist from Yorkville. He was flown by helicopter to Froedtert Memorial Hospital.
Vandebrook, a member of the Kenosha-Racine Bike Club, was placed on life support and his organs were donated for transplant.
Carl Wilkins, the chief referee at the velodrome, said plans for a memorial service were pending.
Vanderbrook's fatal crash is a tragic but rare occurence at the Velodrome, the worst accident in more than 25 years, according to veteran riders.
:(
Here's a nice video about the track from the Milwaukee newspaper, JS Online:

That's terrible.
The boy in Schaumburg seems to have gone through a red light. He'll survive but is busted up pretty bad.
