Bicycle Mechanics - Replacement shifter?
Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We have a couple of Yeah folding bikes that use the Shimano SL-TX50-6R shifters. On one bike, the plastic housing for the shifter is cracked / broken. It's a 6 speed shifter. Does anyone know if it can be replaced with another brand shifter? If not, is there somewhere one can buy a Shimano replacement online?
Looking around on the internet, I see the part listed, but not a place to purchase it.

Here's an exact replacement on UK ebay, and they seem to be willing to ship to the US: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SHIMANO-RIGHT-6-SPEED-TOP-SHIFT-GEAR-SHIFTER-SL-TX50-6R_W0QQitemZ380123156187QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090510?IMSfp=TL0905101110001r7377

I know a pro bike mechanic who swears by the Shimano SL-TX30 shifters like these (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SHIMANO-SL-TX30-TOURNEY-SIS-Index-6-Speed-Shifter_W0QQitemZ230339059286QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090424?IMSfp=TL090424203006r2591). My own experience with them is that they're inexpensive and work very well.
