I am overhauling an older Miyata road bike and while replacing the brakes (side pull calipers, simple threaded stud pad) noticed that there is a significant toe in adjustment needed on the right rear. I have learned (Barnett manual) that the appropriate tool for this adjustment is the PARK BT-3. The manual also indicates that when making this adjustment, two tools should be used (one on each end) even if the adjustment is needed on only one side. My question is two fold:

Are two tools needed as indicated in the manual?
Are there any other approaches/tools to adjust the caliper?

The amount of toe adjustment needed is significant (2-4 mm). The front brakes were just fine and the left rear is good as well.

A single Crescent or similar adjustable wrench does the trick just fine. Barnett's is great, but oriented toward working in a shop where the the perfect tool is more likely to be on hand. Use slow gentle pressure and I wouldn't make any adjustment at all unless the brakes are squeaking

"i wouldn't make any adjustment unless..."

I agree. If you mess with something that works well, you're more likely to create problems than solve them.

If you want good advice on a forum like this, it's better if folks know why you want to fix something, in order to give you advice.
