I've been building custom bikes out of my garage, and doing more lately. I'll post another thread with recent acquisitions that I haven't build up yet. Here are some of the recent builds. Everyone in Chicago wants a single speed these days, so that's what I build most. I'm classy about it, though, and never damage the frame. Here are the bikes!

More to come when I get some photos organized

I'd take that Nikishi out for coffee! Nice.

:), just have him back by 12. Actually it was sold to a guy with full, waxed curls in his mustache. It was a vaudeville scene for sure.

I have been contemplating converting a Schwinn Le Tour that needs a huge face lift that I picked up for $5. Just out of curiosity, how much money are you putting into these and what is your profit?

If those are freewheeling single speeds, they need a rear brake. If they are fixed gear, they should still have a rear brake.

The last few that I've done have come out right around $280-300 cost to build, and I've sold them for around $450. That's with good deals on pretty much everything.

I'll take that into consideration.

Rear brake? I think you mean front brake.

Props on the Nishiki.

Yeah, I think I may strip that Schwinn down this weekend and get the frame powder coated. I can get any basic color with sandblasting for 50 bucks. I just dont know about new wheels and stuff. I may just throw a freewheel on the steel wheel it has and call it a day. Do you think the profit margin would be greater if I I got a new track specific wheelset for it? I plan on using the same brakes and bars and everything.

They look nice, but I don't think my knees could handle any but the Centurion. What gear do you have on the others, if I may inquire?

Those are my kinds of single speeds. Big ring blasters. And hills are for standing up. Nice bunch.

Thanks guys. Jbon, the others are geared 52-18, which is not terribly high, but if somebody doesn't like it I can go with 52-20 instead.

Golfer, you'll definitely do better using a new track wheelset. There's nothing like a new set of wheels. Of course you have to get them at a good price. Ben's cycle in milwaukee has some nice cartridge bearing sets, but with shipping it can get more expensive: http://shop.vendio.com/benscycle/item/2009894316/index.html.

Do you mind me asking where you live? I'd love to get blast and coat for $50, but I don't think that's likely here in the Chicago area.

Blatant post to get this thread to the top of the list. :innocent:

I like that Cervelo take-off saddle on that single speed.
I bought one on eBay after they were featured on BF.
Hardest saddle I ever sat on.

Wow good eye. Yeah, they're pretty hard. Not sure if I'll use them too much, but at $15 a piece new, they're hard to pass up.

'83 Trek 613 w/ near perfect paint. Reynolds 531 main triangle, at least, I'll have to check the catalog. Light as a feather. Selle San Marco suede saddle from a late 80s Schwinn Prelude. Sakae Super Custom crankset, 130bcd, single ring. New Alex R450 wheelset, formula hubs, New MKS pedals, Gatorskin 700x28c tires, Cinelli stem, flipped and chopped drop bar bullhorns, Salsa cross levers, and last but not least, PBR shim for Cinelli 26.4 clamp on 26.0 bars :thumb:

Photos are dark, I'll have to take better shots next time. Good thing the bike went to an acquaintance. :)
