Hey guys-
Sorry for the small pictures, but I was wondering what you guys think if my newly acquired ride. It fits me well and it very smooth but I have some problems. The chainringsand or crankset is slightly bent. The lbs took a rubber mallet to it and straightened it out for me, but the chain is dancing in between the front derailer, hitting the walls. This is a pain because I have to adjust it constantly. I am a perfectionist. What should I do with this?
Nice bike! The Sugino crankset and SunTour derailleur set are world class, and the geometry looks pretty good, as does the color.
Remove the chainrings and watch for visible wobble in the arms of the spider when you spin the cranks. You can also mark the maximum lateral and medial excursions on the chainrings, then remove and replace them with a 2-bolt / 144-degree offset. If the maximum excursions are in the original positions relative to the chainrings, just replace the rings. If the excursions are in the original positions relative to the cranks, remove the right crank and reinstall it advanced by 90 degrees. If this alters the positions of the maximum runout points, you have a bent spindle; otherwise, you have a bent spider or, most likely, eroded spindle opening in the right crank, which then needs to be replaced.
Also, make sure the right crank is properly seated on the spindle, with the bolt torqued to spec. and that the bottom bracket bearings have very little, if any, play.

Wow, I honestly don't understand a thing you said lol. Thanks for all the compliments guys. I guess I am just going to take it back to the lbs and talk to them. S the signature crank is a Sugino? I had to clue. I cant lie, I am not the biggest fan of the friction shifters. I really want to index but that would be an expensive upgrade wouldn't it? Also, I noticed today that in the half mile I commute to campus, my tenders are killing me when I ride the bike. I have a B17 awaiting install this weekend and I am hoping it will make a difference. The seat post is all scratched up and I think I want a new one. I want vintage or vintage a looking one, any suggestions? Also, the paint has white over spray on it that I am hoping will come off with a buffing wheels and some polishing compound. It is awaiting install of continental Ultra 2000's as well. The stem is also looking rather tarnished, what are some good ways to re vamp it? I really dont want to buy new parts if I dont have it.
