Mountain Biking - MTB & Protection Gear

Hey guys my name is Kevin, I’m a designer at PRO-TEC. I’m doing some research on how you guys deal with lids and pads and what you think of protective gear. I’d be stoked if you gave me some feedback on the questions, and any other comments you want to share. Appreciate your help!

1. Can you describe PRO-TEC in a few (3-5) key words, and point out where the brand is different in comparison to other protective gear brands.

2. Tell me about your worst experience with protective gear, and what you absolutely hate about your gear?

3. Do you like to customize your protective gear? Why and how do you do this?

4. Do you see trends in protective gear in terms of what will be hip in a few years?

5. What would be your favorite product improvement in protection gear?

1. No experience with Pro Tec. I do like the looks of the skate style lids, the Cyphon and the Shovelhead. The Auger on the other hand *looks* ugly but that doesn't mean it doesn't work well.

2. I really don't have anything bad to say about my gear. I like my cheapo skate lid just fine, and I don't wear armor. One thing that does bother me is how high profile some skate style lids are (Faction).

3. Its customized with scratches and scars. Don't do anything other than that.

4. Cheaper alternative to the Leatt brace, with a good level of adjustability. A bunch of people already shell out tons of money for these, and it is worth it IMO for what they do. If you or anybody else could come up with something that would do the same job for less scratch you would make a killing.

I agree with you on that comment about the faction helmet. Geeze, my head is big enough. And the bell logo/sticker really has to be redone. Super ugly.

Different approach than other makes.


2. Tell me about your worst experience with protective gear, and what you absolutely hate about your gear? Shin pads slipping, my shin pads are fairly old and are starting to show signs of wearing out.


3. Do you like to customize your protective gear? Why and how do you do this? Nope.


4. Do you see trends in protective gear in terms of what will be hip in a few years?As said previously head neck restraint, maybe something that is fully compatible with a pressure suit type setup.


5. What would be your favorite product improvement in protection gear?Further evolution of multi-impact materials, and maybe custom fitted protective equipment.
