So last sunday was the last ride I had done before falling to a very bad cold (had me in bed Mon-Wed, and feeling like crap up until yesterday). Today was the first day I didnt have an elevated HR just sitting around (well, it still was a little elevated, but only by about 2-3bpm..).

So, today I took my first ride in a week, went out easy.. but man alive, did it HURT!!! My legs felt like goo, and my HR was way over what it has been for similar riding. Example- on the first hill of the ride, I was doing about 12mph, and my HR was 185.. normally I dont see it over 175, doing 13-15mph up that hill..). Now the hills on this ride are not that bad, so I figured it would be a good first ride out (hard to go anywhere around here without hills). 20 miles later, I got home, thoroughly whomped, with my average speed down about 2mph, and my average HR up 10bpm. In otherwords, I guess I havent licked this thing yet..

I am going to be riding a metric century on this sunday, so now the quesiton is, what is the best thing to do? Bike a little?? Was this just a first day back after a week thing? Other than being on the bike, I feel like I am back to normal, but obviously not... :(

You say you went out easy but you didn't go easy. being sick when training you have to be very careful not to work your self. it is suggested go easy for 2 -4 weeks "after" illness. when you go hard you open your immune system up(short period) wich could lead to worse illness. if i were you if i was gonna ride before your sunday ride, i would keep pace very easy zone1. 30-min-2 hours and if you feel up to riding sunday go easy there also. and i would say you feeling like crap on the bike is do to your illness good luck man take care of that cold.

I once had a mild cold (wasn't bedridden, no cough, and no fever), and felt good after five days so I went back to the bike and the gym.

Two days later I was in bed with a nasty chest infection and a bunch of antibiotics.
I couldn't train hard for another month.

Ester C, I suggest at least 1500 to 3000 mg a day.

You can take charge of your on health . Collidiol Sivler is a potent virus , bacteria , fungus , parasite and it also can stop a cold dead in its tracks . You can make it yourself ot purchase it at GNC . I prefer making your on self . Educate-Yourself.org has the info on how to make your own . I use two 9.999 minted coins , a six volt source , radio shack has this , cut the wires and use alligator clips . You must used distilled water ! and a oxigenator , fish tank suppies . Also a zapper , hulda clark has a good one will also help . I havent been ill in a few years now .
