Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets - Use cadence to count crank revolutions?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Nerd alert:

While I was out on the road yesterday (tracked by my Garmin 705 + cadence sensor) I was wondering how many pedal revolutions I make on my rides. I know there is some Tacx home trainer thing that also counts the revolutions one makes.

Now, the Garmin cadence sensor will get impules from the both the spoke magnet and the crank magnet. There must be a way to record both. I know it. Before I ruin my Garmin firmware... did anyone have the same idea and has found a solution for this?

Put your Garmin away and pull out your $3 Mickey Mouse calculator and punch these in:
total revs = assume 90 RPMs a minute X minutes you rode

Now, I have to ask - what are you going to do with this information?

Or, even better, just download your file at the end of the ride, find your average cadence, then multiply that by the number of minutes you road.

Thanks for your encouraging posts guys ;) It's just my natural curiosity... I am spinning/humming around 90-100 rpm already.

Hey.... You aren't one of those guys that lubes his chain every 1,750,000 revolutions and repacks his BB at 10,150,000 rev's., are you????

Yeah.. I do need this counter for just that. And, say, is it true what they say about sailors?
