Northeast - Philadelphia International Championship - spectator advice requested

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm thinking of taking Amtrak down to Philly on June 7th for the men's race. It starts at 9am and ends about 3pm.

The earliest train arrives at 30th street station at about 9am. I can walk to the start/finish from there if I wanted to, but I would only catch the race after the first lap.

I was thinking I would want to venture to Lemon Hill (a longer walk) or take a train to the Manayunk station and walk to Levering/Lyceum ave to catch most of the race from there. The R6 looks like it leaves 30th st station at 9:20 and arrives at Manayunk station about 9:45.

I think I would prefer to watch from Manayunk, but I fear that it will be too crowded to get a good view. Lemon Hill would seem to be a good alternate spot and might be easier to get close.

Any advice regarding good spectator spots would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Manayunk is a mob scene, while Lemon Hill is much nicer. And there are trees to catch some shade.

As the other post said, Manayunk is a mob scene (but it is fun). Lemon Hill is nice and lower key. My Bike Club (Bicycle Club of Philadelphia) has a hospitality tent on Lemon Hill, as do other clubs and some bike shops. Another nice place is by the bleachers at the finish. You get to see and hear about the race on a big monitor, and see the racers come by twice within a few minutes. Wherever you end up, enjoy.

Absolutely to the above. I spend alot of time on Lemon Hill. I ride my bike to the race and ead out to Manayunk and have a blast, It is VERY crowded with alot of young drinkers, but I have fun there. I cannot give you train info but I can assure that you will enjoy the race from wherever you view it. I will be there for the entire race and for some time after it is over.

Cheers,

Brian
