Alright guys, so I just picked up a very fugly yellow Schwinn Le Tour. Its got stem shifters, full of rust, and steel 27's. It does however have a nice crankset that looks like it would be easy to take off the outer chainring to convert to a single speed. I know this is the wrong section, but I like you guys more than the FG guys haha.
Here is my dilema. I really want to strip the frame down and tackle the painting myself. I would do it corectly, by sanding it down to bare metal, lay primer, lots of coats of paint, then the same process for clear. I would use a set of 27" aluminum Rigida's I have sitting around, an ACS freewheel, KMC Z chain, re-use the stock front brake, get new bar tape and housing/cables, and possibly a Tektro lever I have laying around. If i went this route, I would be into the bike around $120. With that being said, what would a nice 52cm single speed go for with brand new paint and nice 27's and stuff? I was thinking like $250 in the Portland market, but maybe more?
I am trying to get the most money out of my return possible. A FG specific wheelset is pretty much out of the question, but I am able to get it powder coated for $50, in black, green, and/or a couple of other basic colors. Please let me know your guys' thoughts. I will try to have pictures up tomorrow when the sun is out!
