Bicycle Mechanics - How do you remove 2 cartridge bearings from Campy rear cassette body?

I've discovered my '06 Campy Record rear hub's outermost cartridge bearing on the drive side has some play in it.

How do you remove it?

The reason for the repair is that there is some play in the bearing, and when I feel the bearing spin it also has some grinding- definately needs to be replaced.

Are you sure there is a cartridge bearing? I have a set of '06 Chorus hubs (same exact internals as Record) and there are no cartridge bearings of any kind.

The hub has two sets of retainer-held loose balls and the "play" is adjusted using the split collar on the non-drive side while the wheel is clamped in the dropouts. You loosen it's clamping screw with a 2.5 mm Allen key, slowly turn the collar clockwise until the play is just gone and tighten the clamping screw. If you overdo it, back off the adjusting collar, remove the wheel from the bike and rap lightly on the drive-side of the axle to reestablish the play and start again.

You're confusing the axle bearings with the two cartridge bearings in the right end of the cassette body. Campy really doesn't consider the cassette body to be repairable and they do not sell replacement bearings, but the bearings can be replaced.

There is a circlip holding the bearings in place. It's tricky to get the clip out, but once done the bearings can be pressed out from the right side, toward the left (inside). It requires two 6803 bearings.

OK, the Campy booklet makes no mention of them and does not show them in the exploded view or parts list. Thanks for the info.

I believed they were '06 but maybe they're '07, they are deffinately cartridge bearings and yes, they are in the cassette body not the hub or around axle. I've removed the cassette body from the hubshell and can see and feel the bearings- the outermost (farthest to driveside is spent but the inner one seems fine. I'll try tomorrow to locate the circlip and remove as DaveSSS has described.

WOW my LBS was telling me to just replace the hub but I really wanna do only the cartridge bearings thanks so much.

Thank me after you get the bearings out and new ones in. I've never tried this repair myself, but I know others have. I recently read about the circlip being a real pain to get out.
