So I'm helping out with this huge swing dancing festival (http://www.frankie95.com/) in NYC for Frankie Manning (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frankie_Manning), one of the original Lindy Hoppers who actually created the dance. He unfortunately passed away last month at 94 (and was still dancing and teaching a few weeks before that!) so now this weekend is a memorial with five days of dancing and live music. I brought MrCrassic yesterday to watch the Second Line (New Orleans style funeral procession led by David Ostwald's Gully Low Jazz Band) from the church to Central Park where they joined George Gee & His Make Believe Ballroom Orchestra at the band shell - he got some great shots that I can't wait to see (hint, hint ;) ).
Tonight will be a three way battle of the big bands on the stage at Hammerstein Ballroom, combining at the end as one huge band (George Gee & His Make Believe Ballroom Orchestra, The Harlem Renaissance Orchestra, and Frank Foster & The Loud Minority). If you have Sirius it's free - it should be both awesome and historic: http://www.sirius.com/40son4
I'll come up for air next week!
