Hello Members,

I live in Seattle and plan to buy a folding bike for daily commute. I liked Dahon Speed D7 that has 20 inch wheel and fenders.

I want to know if I can put this bike (despite smaller wheel & fenders) on metro bus bike rack.

Please also suggest other folding bikes that are good to carry on bus on daily basis.

I'm not an expert on folders, but I've seen BMX bikes with their standard 20" wheels on bus racks so I think the Dahon would fit. I believe the wheelbase is a bit longer than the standard BMX bike too and that would help.

My Brompton didn't fit - 16" wheels are too small. You'll probably be able to fit a 20" wheel in the rack but why bother? Just fold it and bring it on board. You'll leave the rack open for somebody else and make all of those folks waiting at Montlake envious of your folder...

You can take your folding bike on the bus. Leave the rack open for thoisse of us who don't have one.

While were on the subject whats up with Sound Transit. They went out and bought racks that hold 3 bikes and then pulled on of them off so know they only hold 2????????????

I have a Bike Friday Tikit with the optional frame-mounted bag that balloons out of it's case to cover the bike.
Great thing for keeping the gook off of others on the bus.
I have taken it on the bus both covered and uncovered with no issues (up here in Vancouver, BC).

I think you're referring to Metro. Sound Transit has had 3-bike racks for a long time, and they usually work well. Rather than follow Sound Transit's choice of a good bike rack, Metro went its own way and bought another model with flimsy plastic parts that started losing bikes in the street almost immediately. Stupid! They had to remove these racks and now only have the older 2-bike models. These are still working OK.
