Recumbent - Sociable Recumbent

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've built myself a sociable recumbent. Let me know what you guys think about it.

It's as wide as it is long. No choice but to 'take the lane' on the road. Interesting.

That's a very nice trike. Do the seats move to accomodate different leg lengths of each rider?

Well, that's a very interesting project! I'd love to hear your comments after you and your partner have ridden it for awhile.

I've had people stop me to ask about the bike, everyone who sees us on it thinks it really cool. What I'm curious about is would it sell, is it a product that people would actually buy?
A niche market within a niche market.

I get constantly "pestered" about my trike (where to get one, assembly or did it come complete, year, etc.). That kit was sold in 2004, sold 2 so this business venture was dropped and I picked up the pieces (finished in 2005). Sure; a sociable would sell (maybe 2, maybe more- the public is sure fickle when money is involved!). It might be pretty much banned from bike paths. Worksman has sold a sociable (delta) for years, but I saw 1 here in 14+ years.
Great idea; I had a sociable PPV a long time back- and it would not fit through turnstiles, cross an old wood bridge, or smoothly fit the bike path. I got the "are you crazy?" frown a lot.

Is the pedalling independant or do both have to pedal at the same cadence, like on a tandem?

Very interesting. I'd enjoy reading more about it. You would also likely find considerable interest at Bentrider Online (http://www.bentrideronline.com/).
Yes, I think there would be able to see some of these depending, of course, on price. They might be especially attractive for a rental market.
